While doing this asana, the shape of a person becomes similar to that of a chicken. Hence it is called Kukkutasana. In Sanskrit, poultry means cock.Kukkutasana is one of those ancient poses whose focus is not on physically strengthening the body. Of the 15 shlokas mentioned in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Kukkutasana is one that is not in a sitting posture. In fact, it is a mixture of arm balance and sitting posture.

Method for doing Kukkutasana:-
For the Kukkutasana posture, sit by laying a mat on the floor. Keep the right foot on the thigh of the left leg by bending from the knee and keep the left foot on the right thigh by bending from the knee. After that, take out both hands between the two thighs and calves from elbow to elbow. Now, with both palms on the floor, lift the body as high as possible by putting the weight of the whole body on it. After elevating the body, stay in this position for 15 to 30 seconds and then come back to normal. This condition can last up to 2 minutes.
Benefits of doing Kukkutasana:-
Performing kukkutasana strengthens the arms, elbows, shoulders, and hands. By doing this asana, the whole body becomes strong and firm. This makes the chest powerful and removes the chest meatlessness and curvature of the arms. The practice of this asana removes laziness and is also beneficial in removing tiredness. By doing this asana, the vibration of hands and feet is removed, and hunger increases. Poultry is beneficial for both men and women. This asana cures the pain of the back, shoulders, waist, and hands. This reduces the excess fat of the stomach and buttocks (hips) and makes them shapely.

Precaution of doing Kukkutasana :-
Avoid Kukkutasana in case of high blood pressure, heart or lung problems, back pain, hernia, prolapse, gastric ulcer, enlarged spleen, or knee injury. Pregnant women should avoid it, and even those who are in menstruation. Do not practice Kukkutasana in case of an injured wrist or weak wrist, weak elbow, or shoulder.
